“This is very gratifying and a great honor. It will be exciting to participate in IVA's work”, says Johan Oja.

Experience from both research and industry

Johan Oja has an unusual mix of experience from both research and industry, with his background as a Docent in wood technology combined with his time working first as Sawmill Manager and later as Technical Manager at Norra Skog. He has been a driving force for industry development - in particular within measurement technology for better resource utilization in the forestry and timber industries.

“I believe that my background, with experience from both industry and academia, can provide important perspectives to IVA as it conducts its very important work”, he says.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences was founded in 1919, and is the world's oldest engineering science academy. The academy functions as an independent forum where business, academia and politics meet to promote technological development and sustainable social development. IVA has around 1,300 elected Swedish and international members, and 250 member companies in the IVA's business council. His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden, is the IVA's most illustrious patron.

Contributing to the future of the forestry industry

Among IVA's members are distinguished researchers, business leaders and other experts who work together to strengthen Swedish innovation and competitiveness. As part of the Forestry Technology department, Johan Oja will join other leading experts to
work with strategic issues relating to the future of the forestry industry and sustainability issues.

“Exactly how I will participate in IVA's work remains to be seen, but I am looking forward to the opportunity to be part of this important forum”, says Johan Oja.
