Digitized check-ins and check-outs at Norra Timber's sawmill

In 2024 Norra Timber, in collaboration with Datapolarna in Skellefteå, developed a unique system that fully digitizes check-ins and check-outs. We are proud to be the first sawmill to offer this innovative service to our transport partners.

We initially installed four and two check-in and check-out kiosks at our facilities in Kåge and Sävar respectively. These enable drivers to go directly to the correct loading zone without having to contact the main office. Digital loading zone information is provided in advance, for example via our integration with the C-Load cloud service.

Efficient and secure process

Our system enables a driver to register their arrival at the designated loading zone by using the load reference obtained in advance, which also includes the vehicle registration details. When the loading facility is ready to receive the vehicle, access is granted to the correct area and the vehicle is loaded immediately. Our new solution improves safety for drivers, as they do not need to stay in close vicinity to other trucks for any longer than necessary.

After loading is complete the driver returns to the check-in and check-out kiosk to report their load reference. A waybill or CMR document is then generated and printed. The driver can also input an email address and have all documentation sent directly there, for example to their Transport Manager.

Correct documentation – every time

Our new system ensures that the driver always leaves our facilities with the correct documentation. Our computer systems won't generate a waybill or packing slip until the driver has marked the consignment as loaded. Any changes that occur during loading are automatically updated and included in the documentation.

Nina Marklund, Loading Administrator at Sävar Sawmill, says there are significant advantages to the new system:

“It saves us a lot of time in the office, as we no longer have to keep track of which vehicles are on site or prepare their waybills. In addition we do not have to prepare documents for evening deliveries, as everything is created automatically. And most importantly, we know that the documentation is always correct, so nothing needs to be amended afterwards”.
