Norra Timber has long-term investment plans for its sawmill in Hissmofors. Today, around 70 people work at the sawmill and planer, and most of them come from the local area.

“The sawmill contributes to local jobs and smart climate products. It is important to us to invest here to help balance out the technical levels and competitiveness of all our sawmills”, says Henrik Jönsson.

Norra Skog's board has previously made a strategic decision regarding investments in Hissmofors. The planned investments are taking place in three stages, beginning with new post-saw processing after the saw line. The new machinery has significantly higher capacity than the previous one - enabling production to be increased.

This investment in new machinery amounts to approximately SEK 40 million, and will mean an annual production increase of 10,000 m3sv .

The next two investment stages involve upgrades to the saw line and total approximately SEK 100 million.

“Of course these investments feel very positive to us here at Hissmofors. We get job security as well as acknowledgement that Norra Skog believes in us here in Jämtland. This announcement inspires faith in our future”, says Thomas Haiduga, Sawmill Manager at Hissmofors.

Henrik Jönsson believes the investments will also benefit Norra Skog’s members.

“We have previously invested heavily in the sawmills in Kåge and Sävar. Now, thanks to these investments in Hissmofors, we have a better geographical balance. We have modern, competitive facilities as well as access to amazing raw materials. This is a classic example of a win-win”, he says.

Facts

Hissmofors Sawmill currently has an annual production of approximately 170,000 cubic meters, with the goal of increasing production to 200,000 cubic meters within the next two years. Spruce and pine are sawn and planed at the sawmill into boards and planks, and the finished products are then sent to customers in Sweden and overseas. In order to make full use of the forest's raw material, stable and agricultural bedding products are produced from the chippings from the planer. These products are clean and free of dust, and create a healthy environment for both animals and people alike. Some 70 people currently work at the sawmill and planer, which is located just outside Krokom in Jämtland.
