A changeable market
Global interest rate cuts and declining inflation will increase demand for timber products.
At the same time production will slow down in North America, where several sawmills are currently being shut down in British Columbia. In combination with a shortage of raw materials and higher production costs, I predict prices to rise in 2025.
Important trends
- Swedish production of timber products decreased to approximately 17–17.5 million m³ in 2024.
- The stockpiles of spruce decreased sharply, while the supply of pine increased - which will create new export possibilities.
- Exports to the USA are increasing sharply, and the country is expected to become Sweden's second largest export market.
What does all this mean?
Increased demand and better export opportunities favor Swedish sawmills, especially regarding the American market. We will follow global developments closely, and will keep you informed of our industry insights throughout the year.
